No holiday season is complete without the magic of the Hippodrome’s annual production of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. And back by popular demand, it’s the hysterical comedy A TUNA CHRISTMAS.
A TUNA CHRISTMAS Seasons Greetings from Tuna, Texas! There’s no better place to spend Christmas than Tuna, Texas where the Lion’s Club is too liberal and Patsy Cline never dies. In A Tuna Christmas, it’s 24 hours before Christmas and all comic hell is about to break loose as the delightfully eccentric residents of Tuna, Texas compete in a yard display contest. A Norman Rockwell painting this is not.
A Tuna Christmas is written by Jaston Williams, Joe Sears and Ed Howard. Starring Matthew Lindsay and Brendan Powers. Opens Friday, November 29 at 7:30pm. On stage Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 and Sundays at 2pm & 7:30pm through December 22.
A CHRISTMAS CAROL, by Charles Dickens, adapted by Mary Hausch and directed by Gregg Jones. Now in its 36th consecutive year at the Hippodrome, A CHRISTMAS CAROL stars Rusty Salling in his 23rd year as Scrooge, along with a complete cast of children from the Gainesville community. The entire family will enjoy the dazzling special effects and timeless message of goodwill in this heartwarming story of redemption and charity. A CHRISTMAS CAROL is on stage November 30-December 21. Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7:30 and Saturdays at 2pm & 4pm.
Kids Get in Free! Saturday, November 30 through Wednesday, December 11. Kids get in free with a paying adult and donation of non-perishable food item or unwrapped new toy. The Hippodrome donates all food to Bread of the Mighty Food Bank, and toys to Toys for Tots. Details at thehipp.org and the Hippodrome Box Office (352) 375-HIPP (4477).
Tickets to both plays are available at the Hippodrome Box Office (352) 375-HIPP and online at www.thehipp.org.
Thru Decmeber 13
Thru December 13: For more than 10 years, Marion County Fire Rescue firefighters have helped meet the needs of families who are struggling to eat, stay warm and bring joy into their homes during the holiday season. As part of this annual effort, MCFR firefighters are asking the community to partner with their Holiday Helpers drive by donating clothing, toys and non-perishable goods to under-privileged children through Dec. 13, 2013.
Firefighters can accept only new, unwrapped items, which will then be given to families local schools have identified as in-need. Citizens can drop off items at MCFR Headquarters (2631 SE Third St., Ocala) or at any of the MCFR career stations.
Individuals, businesses or groups may also “adopt” families to provide gifts for, instead of contributing single items. For more information, contact Merrie Smith at 352-291-8000.
