If you want to learn about all the resources available to seniors in our community, look no further than the fourth-annual Senior Health Fair. The 2014 Senior Health Fair will be bigger and better than ever with a new venue, more diagnostics and health screenings and up to 60 senior-related vendors. Scheduled for Oct. 2 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., this year’s Senior Health Fair will be held at The Village, 8000 NW 27th Blvd., across from Santa Fe College.
The Florida Center for the Blind is hosting Dining in the Dark with Dignity on Saturday, October 25th at the Ocala Holiday Inn and Conference Center. The Dining in the Dark with Dignity event will raise awareness about the challenges faced by those who are blind and visually impaired and will raise funds for the local not-for-profit Florida Center for the Blind.
The event will feature a full-course meal that will stimulate your senses. The Ocala Police Department and Marion County Sheriff’s Office SWAT teams will serve the meal using night vision goggles. Tickets are just $55 per person ($100 per couple) and will not be available on the day of the event. Do you know a veteran family that is homeless, or at risk of becoming homeless? Meridian can help with Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF). SSVF helps veteran families to quickly gain stability in permanent housing. Services include case management, coordinating VA benefits, referral to community services, and temporary financial assistance for eligible expenses. Together we can help to support our veterans. On October 30, the GFWC Gainesville Woman’s Club is hosting Bodacious Handbag Bingo. Proceeds from this event will support Guardian Angels Medical Dogs, located in Williston, Canine Companions and other local dog programs.
The winners of bingo games will receive a handbag from those that have been donated by area merchants. The handbags will have a minimum retail value of $125.00. There will be a light supper, and the opportunity to buy handbags that contain gift certificates and other surprises.
