RUSTY SALLING LEADS BEHIND-THE-SCENES HIPPODROME GHOST TOURS. Rusty Salling is your guide through the dark spaces of the Hippodrome Theatre, a 100-year-old building on the National Registry of Historic Place in Downtown Gainesville. Rusty will lead you through the back hallways and hidden passages of the Hippodrome, from the third floor to the basement, recounting the legend of the disquieting, desperate ethereal being which has haunted the structure since 1914, long before the theatre moved in on its territory. It is a tale of the most lamentable sorrow, of measureless loss, of the cruelest happenstance, of a relentless yet eternally fruitless quest, the protagonist of which, though long departed from the world in which you and I reside, adamantly refuses to leave these rooms. PLEASE NOTE: This a theatrical event for entertainment purposes only. It is by no means a serious investigation of paranormal phenomena.

HURRICANE PREPAREDNESS
Hurricane season officially begins on June 1st and ends on November 30th. The proper time to prepare yourself and your family is now, prior to the announcement of a pending named storm. A little time spent on preparation can yield great results should there be a need to put an emergency plan into action. Please take a few minutes to review this information today.
When weather conditions warrant, local officials will provide information to the public through the media.
You should have a plan to shelter in place, as well as have an evacuation plan should it become necessary. Remember that power failures are common long before wind speeds approach hurricane strength. A battery operated radio is an excellent way to keep informed about current conditions. Any evacuations should be completed well in advance of severe weather. The local Emergency Management agency will advertise shelter locations when they are designated and opened, however these are to be used as a last resort. You may be more comfortable staying with friends or family in a safe area not in the storm’s path.
Prior to the storm:
Obtain non-perishable food items and bottled water. Have a battery operated radio and a flashlight. Keep a supply of extra batteries and a first aid kit. Trim trees and shrubs around your home. Identify a safe room in your home in case you are not asked to evacuate.
If a storm is pending:
Listen to media announcements. Have a pillow, bedding, personal hygiene items (toothbrush, soap, deodorant) ready to go in case of an evacuation order. Please remember to put garbage cans and outdoor furniture in a secure location. Fill your vehicle with gasoline, and keep a supply of cash on hand. Neither gas pumps nor automated teller machines will be functional during a power outage. Should there be a need, board up windows using plywood prior to arrival of the storm. Tape does not prevent glass from breaking. Do you have children? Remember that should you need to evacuate pack any special dietary needs or baby food, as well as a supply of diapers and toys. Is anyone in your family ill or disabled? If going to a shelter remember to bring all prescription and other medications; eyeglasses, hearing aids and prosthetic devices. Do you have pets? If you have to evacuate please arrange accommodations for your pet at a kennel. Animals will only be accepted at designated pet friendly shelters which may be a distance from your home. Bring a supply of pet food, along with proof of rabies vaccination and a labeled pet carrier. A favorite toy or blanket may help to alleviate stress on the animal.
Please be safe and prepared this hurricane season!
