Marion Therapeutic Riding Association (MTRA) is hosting a 5K and Fun Walk on November 4th at the Baseline Trailhead. The Ocala Police Department and Marion County Sheriff’s Office are helping by holding a contest to see who can sign up the most runners for their team. The walk is titled Run With the Law.
All proceeds from the run will go towards therapeutic horseback riding programs at MTRA. These programs include riding for people with autism, cerebral palsy, Down Syndrome, traumatic brain injuries, MS and others, as well as veterans, at-risk youth, foster children and senior citizens.
MTRA relies heavily on the generosity of the community and its businesses through donations, grants and other funding. They have maintained the equine assisted therapy program in Ocala for over 30 years.
MTRA provides therapeutic horseback riding or Equine Assisted Therapy sessions at a very minimal cost or on a sliding scale for those who cannot afford the very reasonable fees. The program income provides only 30% of the funding needed annually to keep the services in place and to cover the high costs of maintaining the horses and the facility, overhead costs such as insurance, staff and certified PATH instructors. If you have questions about this program, please contact the Executive Director, Leslie Gettys, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
