Alachua County Public Schools will be holding a Job Fair for prospective teachers on Saturday, April 8, and district contracts may even be extended at the fair to highly-qualified candidates.
Principals, assistant principals and district staff will be conducting interviews and providing information about benefits and other perks throughout the event, which will run from 8 a.m. to noon at the UF Hilton Conference Center at 1714 SW 34th Street. Those benefits include quality health insurance, credit for previous teaching experience, stipends for advanced degrees, mentoring and other support and other incentives.
“This is an outstanding place in which to teach,” said Beverly Finley, supervisor with district’s Human Resources office. “We have strong programs within the district to support teachers, and we have a community that really values education.”
The district is recruiting for teachers in a wide variety of subjects and specialties, including elementary education, language arts, math, the arts, science, social studies, physical education, early education, exceptional student education and other areas.
Prospective teachers interested in participating in the fair should pre-register now by going to www.sbac.edu, clicking on the Teacher Job Fair icon in the middle of the page, then clicking anywhere on the fair flier to reach the Pre-Registration page. Registrations will be accepted through April 5. More than 150 prospective teachers have already registered for the fair.
“We’re asking candidates to bring copies of their resumes, all their certifications, transcripts and educational credentials,” said Finley. “We’ll be prepared to extend district contacts on the spot to those who are highly-qualified.”
